* This is not a home test kit. You will need to visit a local lab for testing.

Also Known As:

Liver Function Panel (LFP), HFP

The Purpose of the Liver Function Panel Lab Test

The hepatic function panel blood test will assess your liver function and help detect liver disease or damage in the hepatic tissues.

Quest
Liver Function Profile (10256)

What Does the Hepatic Function Panel Test Measure?

The hepatic panel test measures the levels of enzymes, proteins, and waste products produced or associated with liver function. Liver function tests screen for these substances based on the preliminary assessment of the condition. Your doctor may request a hepatic function panel 7 blood test or the individual test of the following:

Enzymes released by the liver: Alkaline phosphatase (ALP)gamma-glutamyl transferase (GGT), alanine transaminase (ALT)

Proteins produced by the liver: Albumin and prothrombin time (PT)

Waste product: Direct bilirubin and total bilirubin

Who Should Take a Hepatic Panel 7 Blood Test?

You should get the hepatic function panel lab test if you are diagnosed with obesity or being overweight, are a heavy alcohol drinker, have been exposed to hepatitis viruses, or have a genetic disposition for liver disease. Also, the HFP lab is recommended for those undergoing treatment for liver damage or disorder.

Hepatic Function Panel Test Preparation

No special preparation is needed before the blood sample collection.

Hepatic Panel Test Results

The hepatic function panel test results project your liver health and present damages that obstruct proper liver function. For example, high liver enzymes and bilirubin indicate inflammation and hepatic cell damage. On the other hand, low albumin and liver proteins suggest hepatic injury.
