      Diabetes mellitus, commonly known as diabetes, is a group of diseases that affect how your body processes blood sugar. This sugar is referred to as glucose, which is your body and brain’s main source of energy and fuel. If you have diabetes, then that means you have too much glucose in your blood, which can lead to serious health issues.

      There are two types of Diabetes. Type 1 Diabetes is also known as juvenile diabetes because it is usually diagnosed in children and young adults. The body does not produce insulin, which is a hormone required to convert sugar, starches and other food into energy for your body to use. Type 2 Diabetes is the more common type, where insulin resistance occurs. Your body doesn’t use insulin correctly, which results in abnormal glucose levels. This means your body does not use insulin correctly.

      Some of the symptoms associated with both types of diabetes are feeling thirsty; feeling extremely hungry; losing weight; feeling tired, weak and irritable; having blurry vision; having sores that heal slowly; and frequently getting gum, skin or vaginal infections. You may also urinate frequently and pass ketones in the urine, which are a result of the muscle and breaking down when there is an insufficient amount of insulin.
